i-Travel is the WebLocator version expressly studied for the public transport sector. The system monitors the vehicles movements and locate them in real time in order to estimate the travelling time. The traveller can therefore ask for the arrival time at the interested stop through the Internet (using the web browser or a palmtop), sending an SMS or calling an automatic answering machine.
The technology, finalized by EdisonWeb research team, uses historical data and applies elaborated statistic forecast models able to learn and improve the estimation precision and automatically adapt itself in case of exceptional and periodic events.
The advantages to adopt an i-Travel technology can be seen from a clear improvement of the service, starting from the optimization of the waiting time, in addition to a higher perception of reliability from the users, without taking into consideration the benefits for the company from the quantity and quality point of view, such as the control in real time of the fleet, a higher safety for the vehicles, the availability of analysis instruments for the improvement and management.
